A Jewish cemetery in a small town on the Algerian coast has been completely destroyed.

More than 300 graves at the cemetery in Azeffoun, 65km north of Tizi Wezzu, were opened and desecrated.
Locals have expressed outrage at the desecration, blaming both Islamist extremists and local authorities.

A Jewish community in the area ceased to exist already in the early 1960’s with the independence of Algeria and the movement of most of the country’s Jews to France.
